(Previously called Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland)
Project Objective:
SHARE’s interns design, sew and prepare bags to be donated to women’s shelters. These bags contain basic items that a woman escaping a violent environmentneeds.
2017:
With the help of all the interns, The SHARE Institute handmade reusable bags to fill with toiletries such as, soap, lotion, hair ties, and shampoo. The bags were then delivered by one of our interns.
2015:
Twelve care bags were made by SHARE interns. The bags were donated to women escaping a violent environment. The collaborating organization is the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland. The care bags include some of the necessities a women might need away from home. Shampoo and conditioner were included along with a scarf, toothbrush and toothpaste.
2018:
SHARE continued to provide bags to eight women at the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland. The bags contained various hygiene products along with grooming supplies. These bags were delivered on February 2, 2018.
2016:
More than ten care bag were made over the course of two weeks! Our interns purchased a variety of items and then individually placed them into the handmade bags made by one of our interns.
2014:
This fall, the SHARE interns continued one of their favorite projects, creating care bags that are donated to the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland. This establishment is dedicated to assisting women fleeing abusive environments who are often forced to leave their homes suddenly without essential daily items. The SHARE interns created care packages which contained a number of necessities, including a toothbrush and toothpaste, towels, shampoo, and deodorant. A total of 20 care bags were donated this spring.
2013:
The SHARE institute remains dedicated to helping those less fortunate in the community. This spring, the SHARE interns assembled care packages for the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center in Woodland. This establishment is dedicated to assisting women fleeing abusive environments who are often forced to leave their homes suddenly and without time to pack essential items. The care packages assembled by SHARE’s interns included a number of necessities such as face wash, towels, shampoo, and deodorant. A total of 17 Care Bags were donated this spring.
2012:
SHARE Interns continued the Care Bag project this year. They sewed reusable bags and filled them with hygiene materials to be delivered to local domestic abuse centers. These care bags provide some of the basic necessities that are often forgotten by women leaving their homes to escape domestic violence.
2011:
At the SHARE Institute, 20 interns, under the supervision of Dr. Stolba, contributed to making Care Bags for women who have suffered from domestic violence. The SHARE Institute interns sewed reusable cloth bags and filled them with brushes, toiletries, and basic hygiene items. In October 12 bags were sent to women housed at St. John’s Shelter Program for Women & Children. Additionally, 12 bags were sent to women housed at the Domestic Violence Center in Woodland. Interns also brought several Care Bags to the Mustard Seed School of Sacramento as holiday gifts for the homeless mothers of the children that attend the school.
2010:
A total of twenty Care Bags for victims of domestic violence were assembled and donated to the Woodland Domestic Abuse Center this year. The bags contained hygienic items, which are often left behind when these women flee their homes.
2009:
Care Bags with basic hygienic supplies were provided for women staying at the Woodland Domestic Abuse Center. Many times, these women are forced to leave their homes with very little.
2008:
The interns also designed and implemented a project to create and give out care/welcoming bags for women turning to shelters to escape from situations of domestic violence. The SHARE Institute matched all donations made by the interns in this project and the bags were well received by local domestic abuse shelters, including My Sister’s House.
